HELEN BUR (United Kingdom)
đPainting at: RĂșa da Reverencia, 42, Ordes, Spain.
Helen Bur (1990) is a British artist whose practice is based between her studio in Cornwall, UK, and numerous international urban art projects. Over the past few years, she has established herself as one of the leading figures on the international mural art scene. Her work moves between oil painting on canvas and mural painting, employing a figurative language deeply rooted in classical painting traditions.
Her works often capture figures in moments of apparent stillness or suspended within enigmatic situations, creating delicate, poetic narratives in which the everyday takes on a surreal quality. Her paintings evoke emotion while remaining open to interpretation, exploring the relationship between intimate experience and universal themes.
Her extensive body of work can be found on walls around the world, from Brazil and India to the United States and across Europe, where she has participated in some of the most important urban art festivals and public art projects on the international scene. Alongside her public art practice, she has presented solo exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Denmark, while also taking part in group exhibitions at renowned galleries and art fairs.
Between 2013 and 2015, she co-directed the Empty Walls urban art festival in Cardiff, as well as the creative space The Abacus. These experiences reinforced one of the core ideas underpinning her practice: the importance of fostering dialogue between artistic creation and the community.
At DesOrdes Creativas, we celebrate her ability to transform public space through painting imbued with sensitivity and humanity. Her intervention in the festival's 19th edition invites viewers to pause, observe, and discover the stories that exist somewhere between reality and imagination.
