Isaac Cordal (Pontevedra / Galiza)

ISAAC CORDAL (Pontevedra / Galicia)

📍Intervening at: ???? (Multiple locations throughout Ordes)

Isaac Cordal (Pontevedra, Galicia, 1974) is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Galician urban art and one of the leading figures on the international scene. Working across sculpture, installation, and photography, he creates narratives that encourage viewers to pause and look at the world around them from a different perspective. After many years living in Brussels and participating in urban art festivals and exhibition projects across the globe, he is now based in Bilbao.

His best-known project, Cement Eclipses, has discreetly occupied cities around the world since 2006 with small human figures carefully integrated into architecture and the urban landscape. Both subtle and striking, these interventions transform public space into a stage for reflecting on contemporary society, the passage of time, the fragility of the human condition, and the contradictions of the modern world.

At DesOrdes Creativas, we share this understanding of art as a tool capable of transforming the way we perceive the places we inhabit. Isaac Cordal's return for the festival's 19th edition—having previously participated in its 6th edition in 2013—offers the opportunity to rediscover a body of work that does not seek to dominate public space, but rather to engage with it through the power of the smallest scale. His miniature sculptures invite passers-by to pause, take a second look at an otherwise ordinary corner, and rediscover a familiar environment with renewed curiosity, searching for where the next hidden character might appear.
