JUAN RIVAS
Juan Rivas.
Pontevedra 1974.
He is a visual artist and art teacher, based in Pontevedra.
His painting is an approach to landscape, focusing on nature and architecture with the aim of exploring the malleability of rural areas and their relationship with the urban environment.
In his street work, Rivas carries out small-scale interventions, in a playful contrast to the monumentality and invasiveness of large-format murals, subtly integrating his interventions into the environment itself, with a special interest in the border zones between the city and the countryside.
His pieces play with double visions, creating paintings on urban furniture (lamps, posts, signs, etc.) so that in the final result, we can admire both the artwork and the painted reality at the same time, with the furniture acting as a canvas.
His technique, clearly influenced by Impressionism, combines quick drawing with ephemeral materials such as chalk, markers, pastel, or acrylic paint. The process is reversed compared to traditional methods: he first paints the landscape and then takes a photograph, also aiming to capture the texture of the support and the light of the moment.
Over the years, Rivas has participated in numerous exhibitions and various public art projects in places like Madrid, Zaragoza, Vienna, Austria, Finland, and his native Galicia, and his works are part of collections such as the Galician Center of Contemporary Art or the Abanca Foundation.
šššš In this edition of DesOrdes, Juan will be intervening at different points around the town, still to be decided. If you see a guy with a strange look and a palette in hand painting a lamppost, donāt be scared and call the police...! Itās him leaving his little contribution for this 18th edition of DesOrdes!
