"THE ADVENTURES OF KIKE" FANZINE WORKSHOP

A fanzine is a self-published themed publication created by enthusiasts, based on the principles of complete self-management, creative freedom, and low-cost production. Fanzines are known for their limited print runs and their handcrafted, experimental nature. They are usually distributed locally and often involve contributions from multiple creators.

Beyond their creative value, fanzines have historically been used as a form of protest and counterculture, helping people bypass censorship and explore ideas beyond the limits of traditional publishing.

In June 2023, the cultural association A.C. A Keikes published the first issue of A Keikes, a magazine focused on the local culture of Ordes. However, it was not the town's first fanzine-style publication. It was preceded by the regional newspaper O Mês, the magazine Foucellas, and likely many others that survive only through word of mouth and personal memories.

In this workshop, participants will explore the fanzine format by collaboratively creating "The Adventures of Kike"—a collection of drawings, comics, texts, photographs, and any other ideas we can come up with featuring the queique as the main character, using a wide variety of materials provided during the activity.
